Vishal Subramanyan on Instagram: "This weekend, I visited Yosemite for the first time in a while to look for great gray owls. After an unsuccessful morning, we stopped in Yosemite Valley for lunch. As I got out of the car and began walking, I noticed some movement on the side of the path - it was a bobcat, only my second ever sighting of one in Yosemite. The bobcat, like me, was looking for lunch, but I decided to put my meal on hold to watch her try to catch some food. I watched her make a few failed attempts at squirrels over the course of a couple hours. As she continued to move through the forest, her eyes locked in on a squirrel in a fenced equipment area. She slowly got down in a stalking pose, and patiently waited for the squirrel to exit the area and come out in the open. Eventually, the squirrel did just that. The squirrel began to sit on a rock, unaware of the cats’ presence. The bobcats ears perked up and eyes opened up wide. Before I knew it, she lunged after the squirrel and caught it. They rolled over on the path in front of me, dust flying everywhere, and too close to photograph. The squirrel let out a loud cry as it tried to escape her grasp, but its efforts were in vain. Before I knew it, the bobcat was standing on the rock with a dead, motionless squirrel. The cat gave me one look before heading off into the brush to enjoy her meal. Seeing this master predator hunt up close was an unforgettable experience. #bobcat #cat #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark #california #catsofinstagram #catlovers #cats #catlover #natureismetal"
