What happens when one passes?

On January 17, 1874, when the 'original' Siamese twins Chang and Eng died, Eng woke up to find his brother dead. There was nothing wrong with Eng and doctors rushed to prepare to separate the two, but Eng died three hours later (what would be called 'broken heart syndrome', IIRC) curled around his dead twin.

In a documentary about Brittany and Abby not too long ago, they acknowledged that when one of them dies, the other is going to go very soon after. Unlike Chang and Eng, who these days would have been separated extremely easily after birth, Brittany and Abby can't realistically be separated and share too many systems.
