Most Expensive Photograph: Andreas Gursky's "99 Cent"

This is my photograph of Andreas Gursky's magnificant chromogenic color print entitled "99 cent.1999". It is a diptychon (a two-part photograph also called a 'diptych') of a supermarket made by Gursky in 1999. The work became famous as being the most expensive photo in the world when it was auctioned at Sotheby's in February, 2007 and sold for $3.34 million. Six sets of this diptych were originally made....this one, a part of the collection of Randi and Bob Fisher, is currently on display at the Pier 24 Photography Gallery in San Francisco, California. Andreas Gursky (1955- ), the son of a commercial photographer, was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1955 but grew up in Dusseldorf. He received his training at Germany's 'State Art Academy', the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf where he was greatly influenced by his teachers, Hilla and Bernd Becher.
